As 2024 rolls into summer, we observed changing and emerging trends in the kitchen and bath remodeling world. Keep reading to see what you might want to consider for your next remodel.

1.  Hardware, Hardware, Hardware

The 2010s was a decade of minimalism and sleek kitchen designs where everything was floating or hidden, such as pull out microwaves, floating shelves, leaving nothing on the countertops, etc.

When it came to cabinetry, the last few years was all about sleek, minimal cabinets with as little hardware as possible, or no hardware at all.

As quickly as this trend took over, it has faded. People are either going back to traditional kitchen styles, or meeting modern and traditional halfway, and implementing transitional styles.

This year, handles and knobs are back and are here to stay.

When modern kitchens were at their peak, those who opted to go with handles on their cabinets typically opted for sleek chrome or matte black finishes.

This time around, we are seeing the re-emergence of more traditional colors and styles for their hardware, such as bright gold or rose gold.

2. Green

First it was blue cabinets having their moment, and now green cabinets have come in and taken the spotlight.

Dakota Johnson’s viral Architectural Digest kitchen tour sent green cabinets mainstream and now we are seeing them all over the place.

Green is not just dominating cabinets, but tiles, wall colors, and wall papers as well.

Tile shows this year have featured green in every collection.

The range of shades of green and ability to lighten or darken it according to your presence allows you to change the vibe depending on what you are going for – a dark green invokes a warm, earthy kitchen; a light green invokes a springy, bright kitchen.

3. Bars – Coffee, Wet

It’s no secret Covid 19 changed the world and the way we live.

People began investing in their homes after being forced to spend so much time there. Home renovations and DIY projects blew up.

When people could no longer go to bars or cafes, they decided why not create their own at home, so they did.

That said, dedicated beverage stations and wet bars have become increasingly popular, such as coffee bars, drink fridges, and wet bars.

Beverage stations allow for a more organized kitchen as you can have a dedicated area for your drinks and drink making. Having a sink at your beverage station can allow you to rinse and wash any precious glasses that you may not want to put in your dishwasher or main sink.

Not only does a dedicated drink station elevate your hosting game, but it also increases your homes value and desirability.

4. Statement Range Hoods

Next up on the list, range hoods are making a comeback as the main feature in the kitchen.

To create a look centered around the range hood, opt for a hood that complements or contrasts with the surrounding elements.

A statement range hood allows people to express their personality and unique style without overcrowding the space with knickknacks and unnecessary decorations

There are a multitude of materials to choose from when it comes to your range hood, such as zinc, brass, copper, plaster, wood, stone, etc. In addition, you can customize with different rivets, textures, trims, shapes, lights, and more. The possibilities are truly endless.

It is important to note that functionality should come before aesthetics – do not purchase a range hood solely because of its appearance, but first make sure it has the proper vents and its the right size for your space.

5. Wallpaper

While wallpaper was thought to be a thing of the past, to many people’s surprise, it has made a resurgence.

Statement wallpaper is getting more and more popular as people are moving away from the minimalist movement and back towards fun, funky, and statement bathrooms and kitchens.

Wallpaper is an easy way to highlight your personality in your space, whether you are into bright colors and bold prints, or dark and moody styles.

People are moving away from solid paint jobs and wall decals and letting wallpaper be its own decoration and the star of the show.

Wallpaper is ideal because there are many ways to experiment with it depending what you choose, where it goes, and how much of it you use. For instance, you utilize wallpaper from top to bottom. Go 50/50 and put it just on the top half of your bathroom or the latter.

6. Antique Lighting

Wallpaper isn’t the only blast from the past we are seeing in home remodeling and interior design this year.

As the world becomes more eco friendly and conscious of the environment, people are making sustainable efforts even when remodeling their homes.

This is done in a multitude of ways, including thrifting or shopping secondhand for antique lighting rather than purchasing brand new products that ultimately creates more demand and produces more product and waste in the process.

Utilizing antique light fixtures can also help to bring a traditional or classical vibe to the space, or even transitional if mixed with modern elements.

Trends come and go in every category and it can be tricky wondering what is going to stay and what isn’t. When remodeling your kitchen, bathroom, or entire home, it’s important to choose something that is timeless and lasting. You want to ensure that your space is not something that you will get tired of looking at and using everyday.
